Campo San Giorgio 2009

We exhibited it for the very first time at the end of 2013, but the decision to produce a wine with the qualities of Campo San Giorgio (our Conero Riserva DOCG made only from a single vineyard) was taken a long time ago. From several years we had a desire: to value a beautiful and treasured wine land such as the Conero area is, with the conviction that the Montepulciano grapes in here cultivated didn’t express yet all their potential. “Campo San Giorgio was born from this prerequisite”says Michele Bernetti “ a wine in which we had to put so much effort that represents our highest product regarding the red wines production, even more epic than Pelago that till now has been the Umani Ronchi most celebrated wine around the world. First of all Campo San Giorgio is a pure Montepulciano but its typical strength and structure is not exaggerated however valued by elegance and silky tannins, due to its contact on lees first, the consecutive transition of one year in barriques and 6 final months in tonneaus ..but mostly due to the capacity of this estate to combine all the great Montepulciano peculiarities”. Even the name has a specific geographic explanation, just to underline again the strong relationship with the land: Campo San Giorgio is the cadastral appellation of a small slice of land in the Osimo area(with the tracking map on the retro label of the bottle ,where there are details of the district ) that after quite few experimentations distinguished itself for its potential and unique disposition. Considering that this Riserva is not a new entry but comes from a long family experience and tradition, even the label is deliberately old fashion, “a freehand ink drawing” says Bernetti “,that was used as label picture for our Rosso Conero from 1968 till 1972 and that reproduces the vineyards of San Giorgio area, Camerano and Conero mountain”.. such a long journey for a very first production in 2009, intentionally very restricted, only 2814 bottles available in the Italian market and obviously in our wine whop.
