LA BOTTAIA

Our barrel cellar, La Bottaia, is the winery’s beating heart. Any sensory journey into Umani Ronchi’s wines begins here, from the warmth expressed by the wood to the multifold aromatic “notes” conjured up by the wine itself

Dug out of a hill overlooking one of the family’s estate vineyards, la Bottaia was designed to fuse nature and functional elements..
On the lefthand side of La Bottaia and its 500 barriques is a space closed off by glass walls, our tasting room.

Design

Dug out of a hill overlooking one of the family’s estate vineyards, la Bottaia was designed to fuse nature and functional elements, almost as if the raked ceilings and sloping steel uprights accompany the shape of the landscape, making La Bottaia an example of “de-structured” architecture, where quality and sustainability find their natural expression.
All the materials were chosen so as to create the best possible conditions for the storing and aging of the wines in wood barrels. One example is the inside walls, which are made of bricks and pebble so as to offset any any imbalances in internal moisture, effectively creating a natural humidity compensator. The metal cladding that covers the facade serves to protect the space within from the sun’s rays. Finally, air circulation and exchange is ensured thanks to a system of channels that works on the principle of the chimney effect.
La Bottaia represents a major undertaking inspired by “sustainable” values.

The tasting room

On the lefthand side of La Bottaia and its 500 barriques is a space closed off by glass walls, our tasting room. The long wooden table and steel units hint at the estate’s recurring theme: the creative play of traditional materials combined with practical elements and modern technology.

A location for events

La Bottaia’s architectural elements also serve its cultural aspirations. As an open space, it can host various types of events, from tastings to dinners, concerts, exhibitions and installations.
